As COO, Justin wears many hats- HR, finance, operations, and marketing, he keeps himself busy balancing the needs of the store and the employees to make Double DD Meats an enjoyable place to work at.
From cutting steaks to grinding our custom burger mixes, Jeremy and his team work hard to keep the cases full of fresh meat everyday.
"You can't make everyone happy" is something she is always trying to prove wrong. Always in a good mood, she enjoys getting customers what they want.
Responsible for the freezers, Kayla stocks sausages, poultry, game, and exotic meats for all to enjoy. Camel? Ostrich? Kangaroo? She will get it in for you.
Watching over the Deli team, Julia has cut the meats (and cheese!) for 25+ years. As a Cheese Monger, she can tell you all the intricate flavors of that cheese you cannot pronounce.
Slicing meat for over 30 years, this guy still has all ten fingers! Chances are he most likely cut the steaks either you or your parents have consumed at some point in the last three decades.
From training to keeping the kids in line, Traci has kept an eye on the front counter for several years. She prides herself in finding healthy, delicious recipes to suggest to her customers.
John Dallas and Dan Murray used their names to come up with "Double DD Meats" when they opened the doors for the first time. Lester Palaniuk started as a clean-up kid and bought the store around 1983. He worked here cutting custom steaks off of half cows, trimming pork roasts, and smoking chicken for customers while his wife, Bonnie, started collecting sauces for sale. Their kids, Kelsey, Kevin, and Kim would also help out during the summers with a couple employees they had at the time. It was a family tradition that when you were tall enough to see over the counter, you had to come to work!
An arsonist in the city burned down four buildings in August 1990, burning down this very building, West Plaza. The pharmacy, pizzeria, tavern, and meat market was destroyed in the fire.
After rebuilding in the early nineties, the store expanded in a vacant spot that used to be Neil's Nightcap, MLT's local tavern before the fire. Now Diamond Knot has taken the rest of that space.
The fire was a blessing in disguise at it allowed for Double DD Meats to rebuild larger, allowing for more counter space and shelving. More meats and sauces!
Lester's daughter, Kim Nygard, started when she was 17 years old and worked with her father when she wasn't working on the dairy farm with her husband. In 2014, she purchased the market from her dad. She not only expanded the team to over 50 employees, but she also took her mother's selection of sauces and made it the nation's largest, boasting over 3,000 sauces. Her two sons, Justin and Jeremy, have come back to work after graduating from UW and plan to take over when Kim retires. Justin oversees the front half of the store while Jeremy leads the processing team, cutting the meats the way their grandfather did. Even Kim's niece, Kayla, manages the smoked and frozen sections of the store. Three generations at work at DD.
